Swiss watch manufacturer Blancpain has launched a new interpretation of their classic diving watch the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe. The new variant comes with a plasma grey ceramic case that looks almost like gunmetal. The material is light, hard and strong, even resistant to corrosion which is a common problem with stainless steel watches used underwater. The grey ceramic was first debuted in 2014 in the Bathyscaphe Chronograph Flyback Ocean Commitment, a limited edition model which sold out very quickly. Fortunately, the grey ceramic Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe is an unlimited release, so you can buy as many as you like.

The 43-mm-diameter case is water resistant to 300 metres and conceals Blancpain’s self-winding caliber 1315 movement which according to the brand is “distinguished by its sturdiness and its exceptional chronometric performance”. Its three series-coupled mainspring barrels ensure a five-day power reserve and ensure a constant supply of energy. The movement can be admired through the sapphire crystal caseback.

The watch’s deep blue dial is reminiscent of the deep ocean and features phosphorescent indices. The ceramic bezel has been equipped with a blue ceramic insert featuring Liquidmetal hourmarkers, an alloy serving to avoid distortions. You can choose from either a three-ring NATO strap or a sail canvas strap. The watch will be priced at $12,800.
